Eyes are the windows to your soul. Over 80% of human cognition comes from visual information. Hence, the research on human eyes, understanding and acquiring visual threshold characteristics, is important to diagnosis and treatment of visual system diseases, image compression and processing, and visual science instrumentation and application. However, it has been a tough challenge to generate standard human visual threshold images and make it traceable in a quantitative way. With arduous efforts made in past eight years, NIM has successfully overcome this challenge with a self-developed measurement equipment of human visual thresholds, which is able to calibrate measurements of visual threshold characteristics.
The four-integrating sphere light source system is applied to this equipment, realizing, for the first time, the closed-loop adjustment of multiple parameters such as brightness, contrast, chromaticity and periodic pattern frequency. It has also solved many other key technologies when the measurements are carried out in a wide measurement range, in different scenes and conditions, and with different contrast and chromaticity. NIM scientist participated in this research project entitled “Key Technologies and Application of Parametric Testing and Calibration of Photoelectric Imaging System”and won a second prize of the National Technology Invention Award in 2018.
