A world-class calculable capacitor developed at NIM

Calculable capacitors provide traceability to AC impedance. At present, it is the third top accurate measurement standard in electromagnetic field just following the Josephson voltage standard and the Quantum Hall Resistance standard.

After ten years’efforts, NIM has developed a new generation of calculable capacitor by using an unique electrical compensation method. The standard uncertainty for reproducing the capacitance unit has been reduced to 10.5×10-9, representing the best result available now in the world. Dr. Piotr Filipski once highly recognized this work during his peer review at NIM. The new calculable capacitor has participated in the 2017 CCEM.K4 together with seven other countries and the comparison results has shown NIM result is most close to the reference value.
