Leading China’s implementation of the new OIML Certification System

The OIML Certification System (OIML-CS) is a system for issuing, registering and using OIML certificates and their associated OIML type evaluation/test reports for types of measuring instruments (including families of measuring instruments, modules, or families of modules), based on the requirements of OIML Recommendations. The new OIML-CS came into force on 1 January 2018.

As the new Issuing Authority (IA) of China under the OIML-CS, NIM has in November 2018 passed the OIML peer review, becoming the first OIML IA that has technically complied with the ISO/IEC 17065 and OIML D32 requirements. NIM is able to issue 10 types of certificates and manages 4 internal and 3 third-party designated test laboratories. NIM also played a positive role in the OIML documentation work, reflecting concerns and providing advices from China’s perspective. The OIML-CS Management Committee of China has been established, and a symposium as well as a training course on the new OIML-CS have been organized, all greatly promoting the effective implementation of the new system in China.
