Metrology supports the new gasoline and diesel national standard

A new "Standard VI" for gasoline and diesel came into effect in China on 1 January 2019. Compared with "Standard V", the new standard provides more rigorous requirements on the quality of oil products, and on emissions of particulate matters, non-methane organic gases and nitrogen oxides. To be specific, for gasoline, a significant reduction of olefin, aromatics and benzene is required, where olefin content needs to go down by 25%. For diesel, a 36% reduction of polycyclic aromatics content is required, and the total pollutant content should not exceed 24mg/kg.
To support the implementation of “Standard VI”and improve the cleanliness and quality of fuel oil, NIM has carried out extensive research on the measurements of physical and chemical properties and components of oil products, and has developed a series of CRMs for organic components, inorganic elements, which can assure the reliability of oil products measurement data. NIM has also developed a number of calibration guidelines and standard devices.
