Director’s Greeting
In an era characterized by economic globalization and the innovation of technology at an amazing speed, metrology becomes increasingly important as it technically underpins one nation’s efforts in enhancing sci&tech innovation, promoting economic growth, improving human beings’ life quality, safeguarding homeland security, elevating national competitiveness in international trade and to say in a nutshell, uplifting the national strength in an all-round way. Under the leadership of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and with the strong support of other government agencies concerned, NIM bases herself on innovation and defines her three primary tasks as to develop measurement standard (including reference materials) of high accuracy and reliability, reach new levels of excellence in providing calibration and measurement services, enhance metrology science and measurement technology in multiple fields to underpin economic and social development. Over years, with our skills and tools to accurately and efficiently measure, NIM has made the function of metrology largely seen in diverse areas from industries to people’s daily life. NIM works to take advantage of the new breakthroughs in science and technology to meet the new measurement challenges, and meanwhile, to improve the established standards in their measurement scope, uncertainty and the level of automation. As the primary standard holder, NIM also disseminates their quantity values to lower levels of standards to ensure that quantity values are consistent and traceable nationwide. Either a large number of national infrastructure programs, such as the Three Gorges Project and the National Pipelines to transfer gas from the west to the east, or the success of many important events like the Olympic Games and manned space aircraft, all rely on NIM’s unique precision measuring skills in multiple disciplines to measure and to guarantee. As the Changping Campus has come into service since Aug.27, 2009, the year of 2009 opened a new chapter in NIM’s history. The new campus provides the research on frontier sciences and advanced measurement technologies with stable environment and advanced facilities. Today, bearing the spirit of innovation, we see our mission in realizing more accurate and reliable measurements to support economic and social development and improve the quality of life. Through an improved global collaboration, we will work to our full capacity for the objective of creating a state-of-the-art national metrology institute.
