National Measurement Standards & CMCs

As of May 2006, NIM has maintained 124 national primary standards and 220 national standards. As of Feb, 2007, NIM has participated in 170 international and RMO key & supplementary comparisons, with 592 CMCs published in BIPM KCDB. And NIM is providing more than 1000 verification and calibration services to customers in a wide variety of industries.

NIM’s role as the society’s reliable measurement foundation was built upon many outstanding research achievements we made. From 1980 to 2007, over 300 R&D projects were done, bringing home 65 national awards (including the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, the State Natural Science Award and the State Technological Invention Award). Some achievements have reached the world advanced level, for instance, the Quantum Hall Resistance Standard (uncertainty of 5×10-10), the 1V & 10V Josephson Array Voltage Standard (uncertainty of 8.4×10-9 & 5.4×10-9), the Cesium Atomic Fountain Clock (uncertainty of 5×10-15), and the 633nm Iodine Stabilized He-Ne Laser Wavelength Standard (uncertainty of 2.5×10-11). The atomic weights of eight elements (Sb, Eu, Ce, Er, Dy, Zn, Sm, Nd) determined by the division of metrology in chemistry using absolute mass spectrometry were recommended as new international reference standard values by IUPAC-CAWIA.
