Time constant standard of four-terminal shunt established

A project undertaken by Division of Electricity and Magnetism researching on time constant standard of four-terminal shunt was concluded by AQSIQ on Feb 27, 2012.

Coaxial shunt designed and made with copper wires and constantan wires is used as the reference to determine inductance for shunt with a resistance lower than 1 ohm. It established a traceability system for phase angle error for AC shunt at frequency up to 200 kHz. The time constant standard meets the calibration requirement of high precision broadband shunts for medical applications and other related fields. NIM is among the few national institutes that can supply calibration services for broadband phase angle error of AC shunt in a wide frequency range.
