Overview

 

Division of Thermophysics and Process Measurements is missioned in fundamental metrology studies. It is also responsible for dissemination of physical units of temperature, pressure & vacuum, flow rate and thermophysical properties of materials. Its major tasks focus on developing, improving and maintaining national standard artifacts, disseminating the scales nationwide to assure consistency and traceability for those physical units in the whole country. The division officially and exclusively represents the nation’s metrology abilities in international comparisons organized by Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) and Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) to prove and improve calibration measurement capabilities (CMCs) and to obtain world-consistent physical units. The activities help breaking down technical barrier of trades. It plays a major part in forming, revising and guiding the national calibration verification regulations, about the scale dissemination system and variant technical specifications in order to lead and support the domestic calibration services. The division engages in calibrations of secondary standard artifacts and measurement instruments, legal evaluations of laboratory, pattern tests of measurement instruments in temperature, pressure & vacuum and flow rate. It researches and develops new metrological instruments to improve performance of secondary standard artifacts and measurements. It organizes training courses to promote metrology and measurement abilities in the fields. Nowadays, the division devotes itself to metrological problems in monitoring climate parameters, inventory of greenhouse gas emission and evaluation of energy consumption.

 

The Division consists of four laboratories: Radiation Thermometry Laboratory, Contact Thermometry Laboratory, Flow Rate Laboratory and Pressure and Vacuum Laboratory. The division maintains 9 national primary standard artifacts and 23 national standard artifacts. Since 1980, the division has won 43 province-and-minister-level awards; including 5 state level awards in which there are 3 second prize and 1 third prize of Scientific and Technological Progress Awards and 1 award of National Science Conference.
