Metrological Standard for Intraocular Lenses

 

 

Diopters and modulation transfer function (MTF) are important parameters for intraocular lens (IOL) optical quality evaluation. By developing standard IOLs for dioptric power, IOL measurement instrument can be calibrated. By developing MTF, measurement results can be guaranteed. Through these two approaches, good image quality can be achieved.

 

The design of the IOL standard for dioptric power is based on the definition described in ISO 11979. Two structure forms are chosen to realize the calibration of corresponding instruments. One is convex-plane and the other is concave-plane form. The developed IOL standard for MTF consists of two parts: a model eye and standard MTF lens. It objectively simulates the actual environment. With the IOL MTF standard, not only special IOL instruments can be calibrated but also commonly used MTF instruments. Research funds 400,000 Yuan, concluding in 2009.
