National Science Foundation "Study of the Collisional Frequency Shifts in Cs Fountain Clocks"

Collisions play an important role in high precision Cs fountain clocks. In most experiments, a precise control of the atomic density is hard to achieve, which sets a limit to how accurately systematic effects due to collisions can be corrected for. In this project, we are planning to study the factors that will affect the collisional frequency shifts like the temperature of the atomic cloud, the density and size of the cloud, etc to reduce the frequency shift due to this collision and improve the stability of the clocks.
