NIM hosts the 10th Cross-Straight Metrology Symposium

The 10th Cross-Straight Metrology Symposium, an important platform for academic exchanges in metrological field between Chinese mainland and Taiwan, was held in Beijing on June 4th, hosted by National Institute of Metrology, China (NIM). The Symposium alternates once every two years in the mainland and Taiwan, to rally technological ideas and seek collaborations in areas of common interests.

Zhuang Suqin, deputy director of Taiwan Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection, Wang Bubu, deputy director of AQSIQ Metrology Division, Wang Qinping, chairman of the Chinese Society of Measurement (CSM) and Zhang Ming, chairman of Taiwan Metrology Society addressed the opening ceremony.

20 oral presentations were made by experts and scholars from across the Straight. The topics include present development of NIM and Center for Measurement Standards of Taiwan Industrial Technical Research Institute (ITRI CMS), measurement technologies in mass and related quantities, electricity and magnetism, photometry and radiometry, nano-materials, acoustics, medicine, biology and energy. It is the first time that entrepreneurs from Taiwan have been invited to the symposium, which directly bridges research institutes and industries of Chinese mainland and Taiwan. During the symposium, the professionals and senior industrial representatives from Taiwan also visited specific laboratories respectively in NIM’s Changping campus to have more information and in-depth communications with laboratory staff.

During the symposium, NIM director Zhang Yukuan met with ITRI CMS director Duan Jarui and discussed about further collaborations under the framework of Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation of Measurement Science and Technology, signed in 2010 by the two sides. (chenhh@nim.ac.cn)
