Address of Vice Minister Mr. LIU Yanhua of Ministry of Science and Technology at the Opening Ceremony of the Changping Campus, NIM

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning!

Today I am very glad to have this opportunity to take part in the opening ceremony of NIM’s Changping Campus. Hereby, on behalf of the National Development and Reform Commission (or Ministry of Science and Technology), I wish to extend my warmest congratulations on the opening of the new campus. On this occasion, I also would like to cordially greet all the technicians and officers who are working in metrological circle.

Developing science and technology is a task of paramount importance for national revitalization. To enhance the country’s capability in independent innovation has been regarded as a strategic core for the country’s development. In the recent years, our government has attached great importance to infrastructure construction, and the NIM’s new campus putting into service is taken for an important demonstration. The construction of NIM’s Changping Campus not only indicates that the continuous improvement of research environment facilities is highly respected, but also reflects that our government usually thinks much of the continuous improvement of metrology research. It is particularly gratifying to learn that state investment on metrology infrastructure has brought a national metrology experimental base with graceful environments and all kinds implements needed, which indicates that there will be a better future for Chinese Metrology. It is well known that metrology is related to the development of science, technology, economics, national defenses, and even social security. As a big developing nation like China,metrology will not only meet the growing demands of economic construction nationally, but also make its due contribution to promoting development internationally. Therefore, I am very much looking forward to see that with the continuous government support, all our metrology staff will keep up the good work, and bring about more and better scientific and technical achievements and train technical personnel in order to make new contributions to the development of our county. Meanwhile, we must maintain the close cooperative relationship with other metrology research institutes all over the world to bear the obligations and responsibilities of intentional development of metrology.
