Address of Director Zhang Yukuan at the Opening Ceremony of the Changping Campus, NIM Honored Minister Wang Yong Distinguished guests, Ladies and gentlemen, Good morning! It gives me great pleasure to be here with our distinguished leaders and guests in this golden autumn day to celebrate the opening ceremony of NIM’s Changping Campus. It was good of all our guests from the whole world to take the time and trouble to come here, establishing festivity as well as goodwill for us. I believe I it is your arrival that sponsor this opening ceremony as a magnificent meet in Chinese Metrology development. Hereby, on behalf of NIM, I would like to extend warm welcome to all the distinguished guests from home and abroad and express heartfelt thanks to all the friends who have been caring for and supporting our work over the years. Over the past six decades, with the social and economic development of China and the tremendous efforts of several metrology generations, NIM has traversed an extraordinary course and achieved great success in its development process. It is the new campus coming into service that makes today a date of which history has preserved the record. From July 2005, it takes about 4 years to construct the campus, which covers a total area of 561,085 m2, entire construction takes up 47,291 m2. There are 25 buildings completed in this phase, and 12 of them are sophisticated special labs like electromagnetic anechoic chamber for EMC, full- and semi-anechoic chambers for acoustics, 100- and 1000-level clean rooms, vibration-isolated buildings, constant temperature and humidity labs, etc. The opening of this new campus will not only provide a sharable-use research platform for intentional exchanges and cooperation by integrating R&D programs, talents, and innovations, but also create greater space for the development of metrology. With economic globalization and rapid advancement of technology, NIM’s career is facing a rare chance for development as well as tough challenges, and the Chinese government has attached great importance to metrology. However, we are well aware that as compared with countries with advanced metrology, China's metrology science and technology lags fairly far behind. We still have a lot of work to do on supporting social progress, people’s security and even economic, scientific and technological development. I expect that NIM’s new campus coming into service will provide us with new opportunities, under the leadership of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and the care of related national departments as well as people in all circles both at home and abroad, we must try our best to make new contributions to the economic and social development of our country! To conclude, I wish the forum a complete success, and hope all our distinguished guests have a happy stay in Beijing! Thank you all! see also: NIM Home Page |
