Challenging Developments in Chemical and Bio-chemical Metrology —Instigating Innovation, Sustainable Economy and Improved Quality of Life By Dr. Robert Kaarls, Secretary of the CIPM and CCQM President Robert Kaarls is member and formal Secretary of the International Committee for Weights and Measures - CIPM. He is also the President of the Consultative Committee for Metrology in Chemistry – CCQM. Formerly he has been director of the national metrology institute of the The Netherlands (NMi-VSL). Robert Kaarls obtained his degrees in metrology, chemistry, electronics engineering and physics at the Delft Technical University. In 1967 he has been a guest worker at NBS (now NIST) in Washington DC and Gaithersburg, Md., USA. Robert Kaarls is a founding member and has been the first chairman of EURACHEM. He also is a founding member of CITAC. As the Rapporteur of the CIPM working group on the statement of measurement uncertainty he wrote in 1980 the first document giving guidance to nowadays measurement uncertainty calculations and statements. Robert has been a founding member of EUROMET (now EURAMET) and founding member and chairman and vice-chairman of the European Accreditation of Laboratories (EAL) and European Accreditation (EA). see also: NIM Home Page |
